Genesis 37:5-9 “Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, ‘Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.’ His brothers said to him, ‘Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?’ Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. ‘Listen,’ he said, ‘I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.’”
#1. Develop our resilience
Gen 39:3 says, “Now his master (Potipher) saw that the LORD was with (Joseph) and how the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.”
Gen 39:22, “The chief jailer committed to Joseph’s charge all the prisoners who were in the jail; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible for it. The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph’s charge because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made to prosper.”
Resilience is built when we stop resisting resistance and embrace it.
#2. Develop our character.
Gen 39:8-9, “Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge. There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?”
Character is who you are when no one is watching.
You build character by doing the right thing even when you know it could hurt you.
Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
When you choose character it might hurt you in the worlds eyes but it will never hurt you in God’s eyes.
Gen 45:5, “But don't feel badly, don't blame yourselves for selling me. God was behind it. God sent me here ahead of you to save lives.”
#3. Develop our perspective.
God’s purpose for my life is not about me.
