Description

In the second mini-episode of NNNG, we zero down to discuss a very specific piece of literature and cinema: the American Psycho. It is a piece of art which, in its horrifying artifice and an even more horrifying reality, captured the essence of what culture was devolving into. We look at the American Psycho from various lenses: how it is a satire of our present-day consumer society, how its reading of the said society relates to the nouveau riche yuppy culture of the 80s, and what it is supposed to represent. We also dive into some specific questions in relation to the movie and the book. Can Patrick Bateman be characterised as an anti-hero? Is American Psycho a(n) (anti)feminist film? What is the role of that violence plays in the movie? Listen to the mini-episode for more!!
