In today’s episode of The Farm Team Podcast I am honored to be joined by Dr. Travis Novak. Dr. Novak is another lifelong friend of mine from Lethbridge, Alberta. Ultimately, Travis retired from competitive hockey in 2014 to continue his academic journey and has recently graduated from the University of Calgary and is now a full time Family Physician. Travis had a tremendous hockey career highlighted by his 17 games in the American Hockey League amounting 2 goals and 4 assists.
Travis grew up and played all of his minor hockey in Lethbridge and in 2005 he played for Team Canada West in the Canada Pacific U17 tournament earning a silver medal. Afterwards Travis left home in his Grade 12 year, to join the Canmore Eagles in the Alberta Junior League and was eventually drafted to the USHL in the fourth round to the Omaha Lancers where he continued his hockey journey south of the border.
In his second year with the Lancers, Travis played an instrumental role in leading the team to a league and playoff championship where they were named Clark Cup Champions. The following year he joined the Division 1 NCAA St. Cloud State University Huskies where he played for 4 seasons while earning a Degree in Biomedical Science. Trav is the epitome of a student-athlete and earned the accolades of the WCHA All-Academic team in 3 of his 4 years.
Travis continues to blaze a path that should be exemplified and is proof that hard work and dedication to your craft pays off. I look forward to talking to Travis today about his life and sports experiences and learning about some of the important decisions he’s had to make along the way.
