In the episode I am honored to be joined by the icon of sports medicine in Lethbridge, Alberta, Gord Watt. Gord has been in the sports med business for over 30 years and is the operator of the High Level Athletic Therapy Clinic in Lethbridge. He is in his 6th season serving as the Head Athletic Therapist for the Lethbridge Minor Hockey Organization and he is currently in his 3rd season working with the U18 Lethbridge AAA Hurricanes. In this episode we talk about his experience growing up and playing hockey in Brandon, Manitoba. His transition from his playing career into being a Linesman in the Western Hockey League, and ultimately what lead him into sports medicine. We talk about his family and the tremendous support they have provided over the years to allow him to dedicate a lot of his time to sports and helping athletes get to the next level. It has been many years since Gord and I have connected so it was awesome to talk shop with him for over an hour. We talk about the phone call that got him back into minor hockey and what it was like to make the incredible 2018 Telus Cup run coinciding with the Humboldt Bronco's tragedy. We discuss the critical importance of bringing mental health awareness to his teams and players. Gord has a unique ability to connect with people and has been a tremendous resource for hundreds of athletes during his lifetime. We pay tribute to many of the incredible people he has worked with over the years. This is an awesome episode and extremely grateful to Gord for taking some time to talk hockey and life with me!
