In today’s episode of The Farm Team Podcast I am pleased to be joined by Matt Weninger. Matt is currently the Goaltending Coach for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League, as well as the Manager of the South Region for Hockey Alberta. Matt is yet another NCAA Division 1 goaltender to be born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Matt attended St. Lawrence University in the great city of Canton located in the Empire state of New York. Matt earned himself the starting goaltender role from his freshman to senior year. During his time with the Saints, Matt set school records for total career saves, most games played, most consecutive games played, and total minutes played. Upon graduation in 2014, Matt was the recipient of the Terry Slater Perseverance Award, which is ‘presented to the Saint player who, when faced with a significant personal challenge, performed with distinction and conducted himself with grace, thereby bringing credit to himself and the team.’ This award speaks for itself and I look forward to learning more about how it came to fruition.
Prior to his NCAA experience Matt played his youth hockey in Lethbridge before heading east to pursue junior hockey in Saskatchewan where he had stints with the Kindersley Clippers and the Flin Flon Bombers of the SJHL. It is safe to say that based on Matt’s playing experience and current role with Hockey Alberta he plays an instrumental role in providing Actionable Insight for the next generation of student-athletes. And with that, I’d like to welcome to the program Matt Weninger.
