In today’s episode of The Farm Team Podcast I am honored to be joined by Kimberly, British Columbia’s Very Own Matt Wilkins. Matt is in the midst of his 5th professional hockey season and is currently a member of HC Gherdeina in the Alps Hockey League located in the beautiful Northern Italy town of Selva. Wilks has had an amazingly successful career and continues to demonstrate his ability to produce, and play the role of a highly-skilled offensive winger.
Matt was fortunate to start his junior career playing for his hometown the Kimberly Dynamiters. Followed by a year in the BCHL for the Trail Smoke Eaters and he spent his final two seasons of junior hockey playing for the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL where he helped establish the foundation for where the program stands today as a national powerhouse.
During his junior hockey tenure Wilks earned himself a scholarship to play for the Union College Dutchmen located in Schenectady, NY where he played for four seasons and graduated as Team Captain in 2016. In only his second season with the Dutchmen, Wilks played a major role in leading the team to its second-consecutive ECAC Championship, and the Schools first NCAA National Championship. After College Wilks, continued his hockey journey and played 2 seasons in the ECHL for the Reading Royals before heading overseas to pursue professional European hockey.
I look forward to our conversation today and hope to learn more about Matt and his experience with the game of hockey and provide Actionable Insight for the next generation of student-athletes.
