In today's episode of The Farm Team podcast I am pleased to be joined by the player and coach Development Coordinator for the Sharks Sports and Entertainment group, Mike Janda. Mike is also heavily involved in coaching himself and currently serves as the Head Coach for the San Jose Jr. Sharks U16 AAA team as well as the Assistant Coach for the U18 AAA program. In 2018 Mike was appointed to the Coach-In-Chief position for the California Amateur Hockey Association and to the Director of Coaches for the Northern California Junior Hockey Association. Needless to say Mike has extensive experience in the overall development of players and coaches throughout the California hockey community.

Prior to coaching, Mike had an outstanding playing career highlighted by his 4 seasons with the NCAA Division 1 Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers where he was a part of the 2010 AHA Championship team, which earned them a bid to the School’s first Frozen Four tournament appearance held in Detroit, Michigan. Before attending RIT Mike played his first junior season for the Springfield Spirit in the North American Hockey League followed by two seasons with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League.

With Mike’s playing career and passion for growing the game he has been armed with a tremendous amount of knowledge to be passed on to the next generation of student-athletes. I’m excited to have Mike on the show today to learn more about the state of hockey in California and to talk about some of the unique development opportunities at the grassroots level they have been working on.
