In today's episode of The Farm Team podcast I am honored to be joined by my parents Mike and Penny Sheen. Both my parents have deep roots in Lethbridge, Alberta and my mom has recently retired after spending 38 years working for Alberta Health Services. My dad continues to inch towards retirement and has been working with a major oil and gas company for the better part of a decade. They continue to reside in Lethbridge along with my big extended family that is sprinkled throughout Southern Alberta.

My parents have always been the most influential people in my life and their support has been nothing short of amazing. As with any hockey or sport parents there is a learning curve involved with having children participating in competitive sports. They themselves have proven to be “students of the game” and have passed that knowledge down to us. The best piece of advice they have armed us with, and is applicable to any situation in life, is to go hard, go fast, and be kind to those around you.

There is a saying that goes “when you’re a kid you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up”. That quote has made me realize that your parents may not have all the answers, but with a growth mindset and a passion to learn, those attributes can serve as a foundational pillar to allow their children to grow alongside them.

In today’s conversation I hope to uncover more advice they have and learn about their perspective of raising three children to be the people we have become today.
