In today's episode of The Farm Team podcast I am honored to be joined by two-time Canadian Olympic Gold medalist and former member of the Calgary Inferno, Rebecca Johnston. Rebecca is one of the most decorated Canadian Athletes of our time and she continues to make huge strides in growing the game of hockey.
Rebecca hales from Sudbury, Ontario where she grew up in a family heavily immersed in the hockey world with all of her siblings playing at the university and professional level. Following the path of her brother and sister Rebecca pursued her academic and athletic journey at Cornell University and graduated from the Big Red program in 2012.
In 2008 she was named to the Canadian Women’s National Ice Hockey team which set in motion one of the most impressive International hockey careers to date. Highlighted by a gold medal in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, a gold medal in the 2012 World Cup, and a gold medal in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, all with wins over the U.S national women’s team and this past year Rebecca was named to the 2022 preliminary roster for the upcoming Olympics in Beijing.
In today’s conversation I hope to learn more about her experience playing for Team Canada and what the development path is like for an elite player like herself. The landscape of the Women’s game is changing by the day and there is no better person than Rebecca to talk with to get an insiders perspective on those changes and what the overall impact will be.
