Just a quick walk on the beach packs quite a punch to our overall well being. The sun provides us with loads of Vitamin D, which in turn helps prevent autoimmune disease; the sand under our feet acts like a natural exfoliant, and the sounds of the ocean and winds can help alleviate stress. You can get a great workout in too, walking on the beach actually requires 2.1-2.7 times more energy than walking on a flat surface, so you'll expend more calories as well. Walking barefoot on the planet is something we may not be used to on a regular basis but numerous studies have shown the immense benefits of "grounding" or "earthing". According to Gaetan Chevalier Ph.D , "grounding the body discharges stress and promotes proper functioning of the body’s systems, which are electrical in nature. Research conducted on the effects of grounding, as well as years of anecdotal feedback, demonstrate clearly that grounding calms the nervous system, reduces inflammation and thereby promotes proper functioning of the body’s self-regulating and self-healing mechanisms, a foundational benefit that restores and maintains health." I hope you enjoy this quick episode on my grounding experience. I hope you give it a whirl too. Go get grounding.
