Author Rita Gentry on From The Ground Up.
San Francisco native, Rita Gentry says “From the time I was born, music and dance were my life”. As a little girl Rita learned a lot about pinball machines, shuffleboard and maraschino cherries from her dad at O'Shea's Bar.
Later on as a young woman she worked her way up from the steno pool to working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry such as acts like Grateful Dead, Michael Bloomfield, Merle Saunders and the Sons of Champlin, Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen just to name a few. In 1979 she began to work at Bill Graham Presents and was there for the next 20 years. Before retiring, Rita worked with Santana Management as personal assistant to Carlos Santana. And now as a 1st-time author, she has released her booked entitled “Before I Forget” Memories of Bill Graham and Bill Graham Presents!
