It’s in Your Genes
Hosea must have felt that Gods demand were too hard. What with asking a straight man to keep going after a crooked belle! She was beautiful all right but is beauty enough? He was the holiness prophet; his only message was ‘holiness unto the Lord.’ He was sent to the nation but in his house, was the epitome of the very thing he was sent to cleanse the country of.
The trouble is, he was in love with her, and she made nonsense of his very essence. God was insisting that he hung in there. How long o Lord, how long? Did you even know what you were doing when you were doing the match? But God, why?
For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. (1 Corinthians 1:25)
Someone once said God is the finest, shrewdest businessman you can ever imagine. He certainly knows how to maximise His resources. Yoking two holiness freaks together would be wasting resources. It would be best if you harnessed the strength of the strong to complement the weakness of the weak.
The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.” (Hosea 3:1)
“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I treat you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboyim? My heart is changed within me; all my compassion is aroused. (Hosea 11:8)
My dear, in what way is heaven needing you to show Gods unfailing love? How are you required to typify God's willingness always to bear and forgive? As you worship with other believers today, think about God's love and compassion. Remember that He takes you back every time you return in repentance. Since you have His genes, you would be abnormal if you behaved otherwise.
Show God's tremendous capacity to love the unlovable folks around you today. You can do it. It's in your genes. In loving the unlovable, should we condone their loveless act? Certainly not! We are to keep pointing to the way of the grace, mercy and restoration. Love conquers all.
