The God of second, many chances
Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”
Don’t you just love GOD, ever so willing to give another chance? Remember the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. He is not like us that will yank you off at the least sign of let down.
Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Dear MOG, If they give you another shot at your assignment, you better grab it and run with it. No matter how long or how difficult the assignment might be, (actually, you find that it gets a little more complicated when you have to go at it again. It is always easier to obey the first time out. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took three days to go through it. Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. Can you believe this, a whole city in repentance? O for that kind of reaction in our time, what a revival that would be!
When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:
“By the decree of the king and his nobles:
Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish.” When repentance begins at the palace and extends to the animals, then you know you have a revival. Lets us stop here and say a prayer for our world; dear Lord, thank you for the world we live in. we pray today that you would pour out your spirit into the world that men and women would be convicted of sin, and of righteousness. We ask that revival will sweep through every nation and tribe and that Jesus will be king and Lord over us all. Please Lord, pour out your healing and grace, help our world to know you in Jesus name we pray. Amen
When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened. Listen, dear child of God, He does not like it when you go against Him and better know this, He is in pain when He has to punish you. It is not in God’s interest for you to be lost
