Dave Best is not only a senior manager at The Home Depot, he is a drummer, hockey commentator, self-improvement guru, and a family man. He graduated from Penn State University with a BA in Telecommunications. Regardless of the company, Dave innovates and strengthens team relationships. He builds trust wherever he goes.

Whether consciously or unconsciously, some leaders work from the traditional leadership assumption that team members are the cause of unproductivity. When problems occur, they blame the team. Dave talks about what happens when you don’t work from this assumption.

Too often, leaders assume that team members cannot be trusted. Trust can mean not able to execute tasks alone or believing that employees will use knowledge about leaders against them. Dave describes what can happen when you work from an assumption of trust.

In organizations that have frequent workforce reductions, benefit cutbacks, or removal of employee perks, you’ll likely find leaders who act as if team members are less important than revenue, profits, operational expenses, and leaders. Again, Dave discusses what it is like when employees as more important.
