The CMF is calculated by multiplying the volume by the close-to-close difference and then averaging over a specified number of periods. The result is a line that oscillates above and below zero, with positive values indicating accumulation and negative values indicating distribution.
The CMF can be used in a variety of ways. One of the most common is to look for divergences between the CMF and the price movement of the security. If the price is making higher highs while the CMF is making lower highs, it suggests that the buying pressure is weakening and the uptrend may not continue. Conversely, if the price is making lower lows while the CMF is making higher lows, it suggests that the selling pressure is weakening and the downtrend may not continue.
