Lion is an innovative manufacturer of zero-emission vehicles. The company creates, designs and produces 100% electric urban commercial trucks, electric buses and minibuses for school and public transportation. The company is currently addressing a $100 billion market for medium-duty and heavy-duty urban trucks in North America. The one for school buses is valued at $10 billion.
Lion Electric Vehicle has big competitors in front of them such as GM and Blue Bird. This market will further be expanded by Biden’s clean-energy plan, which seeks to accelerate the transition of the US 500,000-unit school-bus fleet to zero-emission vehicles. This includes the planning of a first-ever nationwide electric car infrastructure… which will benefit companies like ChargePoint and XL. Electric Vehicles are more and more admissible to everyone nowadays. It won’t be long before everyone has an electric vehicle in their driveway and delivery companies moving in electric trucks.
A few months ago, Lion’s investors learned that First Student, the largest student transportation provider in North America, will be ordering 260 all-electric LionC school buses! This is the largest order of school buses by a single customer in Lion’s history. The order will make First Student the largest operator of zero-emission school buses in North America. It’s also a game-changer in the needs of the market at scale. Deliveries will take place beginning in the second half of 2021 through the first half of 2023.
In May, the Canadian and Quebec governments announced a $100 million CAD investment into Lion Electric in order to help them develop a battery plant. This new facility is supposed to be functional by 2023 and will facilitate access to suppliers and customers. Here are some pros of this new facility :
With this new facility and battery supplies, Lion will have to increase its production capacity. More batteries = more trucks. Lion is expanding to the United States and is set to open a new facility in Illinois (US) to produce its medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
Things are moving fast at Lion... With a current production capacity around 2500 vehicles per year, Lion predicts to be able to produce up to 20,000 vehicles per year by 2024. This will neatly increase their operating earnings.
