What makes XL different from Tesla and Nio, is that XL doesn’t make its own branded commercial Electric Vehicles. Instead, they take gasoline-powered commercial vehicles and fit them with batteries, electric motors, and control systems, transforming them into hybrids. In other words, XL develops and deploys hybrid electric solutions for the commercial and municipal vehicle market in North America. Transportation is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the US and fleet managers are under increased pressure to curb emissions. Some of their many clients include Ford, GM, PepsiCo and FedEx. Companies using XL actually save money on their fleets.
In that regard, XL can increase fuel economy between 25 & 50%, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions up to 20-33%, thus decreasing operating costs and helping companies reach sustainability goals. At the beginning of February, the company announced a partnership with Curbtender, a designer and manufacturer of vehicles. The companies will jointly develop fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid trucks beginning this year. The fact that it already has concrete plans and executing on their partnerships indicates that the company is moving quickly and executing on its growth plans. XL Fleet has a strong customer base and a significant amount of revenue, providing validation of its technology and products. They have a niche product and they electrify ICE vehicles. Right now, XL’s competition is effectively zero. The only potential one is Hyllion but they have no revenues. Moreover, the company’s financial results should be boosted by the electric vehicle boom in the U.S. and Biden's infrastructure bill. Their Total Addressable Market is estimated to be at 1 Trillion $.
