It doesn’t need to be Black History Month for us to speak about Black History. This will be the first of many in the “It’s Not Black History Month” series. We will have several episodes like this throughout this season with each focusing on a different topic. Our first topic is about Black Russians! Did you know that in the 1930s many African Americans left the U.S. to start a new life in the Soviet Union? We didn’t know this until recently and we had such a good time doing research for this episode. The stories of the black pioneers and their descendants are beautiful expressions of a black experience very different from those that chose to stay in the U.S. We discuss everything from their journey, the success and wealth they found in the Soviet Union and the current state of Black Russians today. We hope you learn something new in this episode or perhaps just a refresher of history you already knew, either way you don’t want to miss this episode.
