God has prepared a place in the wilderness for the “woman” (Israel) to fly for safety from the attack of the serpent. One third, the Elect (the Righteous from among the Jews) will be protected. In this place, the Elect will be nourished and protected for 3.5 years (the second half of the tribulation).
Imagery of both the dragon and serpent are used. The snake symbolizes lies, deception, and manipulation, whereas the dragon symbolizes power, strength, imposing intimidation, violence, fierceness, ferocity, and evil intent.
While the snake lies and collects its followers, the dragon mobilizes the nations for violence against the woman and brings them like a flood. And, though he uses seduction and deceit to manipulate those he turns against the woman, it is the dragon’s hated that will fuel the fires of aggression and brutality against the woman. But the woman will
be rescued from this attack, as certain nations will come to her aid and absorb this assault.
