From His mouth chooses to now come a large sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations. It signifies thedeadly and sharp nature of the truth, as His word is truth, and it always accomplishes its purposes. But in the future, He will rule with a rod of unbending and unbreakable iron. Those appointed to death will be smite; those appointed to life will be shepherded.
“… and He now treads the winepress of wine of the wrath the furious anger of God the Almighty.” Added to wrath is God’s furious rage. In this press, He is not treading grapes, but the wine itself. The wine is emblematic of those in the household of God who were born-again, but never made that choice to become a little child of God.
