In the exodus journey out of Egypt, Yahweh confirmed a covenant with His people, and He stated, “for you shall not worship any other god, for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” Thus, He lets Moses, and the people, know that jealousy goes to the very fabric of His personhood, as it defines His name. Thus, in the same way that He knew Moses by name, He wanted Moses and all the people to know Him by His name.
