Unlike their armed brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine coast guards work silently and tirelessly to protect the territorial waters, patrol the coast lines and safeguard maritime vessels and travellers.
The Philippine Coast Guard is under the Department of Transportation since 1998, because of the civilian nature of its work. However, it becomes a part of the armed forces during war. It operates with 13 districts, 54 stations and some 190 sub-stations around the country.
This episode highlights the activities of the Coast Guard in recent months.
