MARY E. NOLTE

Hi, I’m Mary. I’m a writer and editor based in Pittsburgh, PA. I love the outdoors, old houses, snuggly pets, and anything creative. I live with my partner and our tuxedo cat, Vincent.

I’ve been obsessed with writing and literature since the beginning. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad reading me poetry from A Child’s Garden of Verses. No matter what career I have pictured myself in throughout my life (veterinarian, nonprofit professional, appraisal appointment maker), in the back of my head I always had the phrase but also I will write.

In 2013 I graduated from Mercyhurst University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Spanish and a concentration in creative writing. I worked for four years in the non-profit world, writing grants and supporting other fundraising efforts. A couple of years after graduation I found myself yearning for time with fellow writers, the college atmosphere, and the classroom. So I decided to go back to school, and graduated from Chatham University with an MFA in Creative writing in 2017, focusing on Fiction.

Since then, I left the nonprofit world and spent a few years at a corporation. Lately, I’ve been helping other writers improve their work through manuscript editing. I am also editing my own manuscript, a novel that was my thesis in grad school. I love writing short stories, and have several that I am working on for submission.
