I'm your host Darlene, I am a student studying Communications and Digital Studies. You may be wondering what does she know about the environment? It wasn't much until I started doing my own research and educating myself. My goal for this podcast is to share that information with you! This episode is all about Coronavirus, and it's effect on the environment.

I never thought I would live through a pandemic and I bet you didn't either. The global pandemic is something that is recent and is effecting human health/the way people are living, but how is it effecting the environment?

A Carbon Brief analysis stated back in March that COVID temporarily reduced Chinas CO2 emissions. For those of you who do not not what CO2 is, it is Carbon Dioxide which is a greenhouse gas. Of course its is slowly rising back up due to less restrictions.

CO2 is the greenhouse gas most commonly produced by human activities and it is responsible for 64% of man-made global warming. Its concentration in the atmosphere is currently 40% higher than it was when industrialisation began.

Co2 is added to the atmosphere because of human activities when things like wood, coal, gas, and oil are burned. Gas is something that is in most motor vehicles and aircrafts, so it is used often. Since the lockdowns the CO2 emissions are less because people aren't driving or taking flights as often as they were before coronavirus. This doesn't mean that CO2 was not being produced.

Online shopping is becoming more and more popular. I know im guilty of doing it during quarantine. This can become a problem because gas is being burned in order to ship and deliver these items especially when they are from overseas. This is something we need to work on limiting in order to save the environment.

That's all I have for today, and thanks for listening!
