Video Monsters kicked off 2021 with our “New Year, New View” series, where Nathan and Eric rewatch films one of them initially disliked to see if our feelings have changed. Next up is Nathan’s pick: IT FOLLOWS (2014), a fitting follow-up to our first episode when you consider that it follows in the stylistic footsteps of THE SHINING like a deranged Jack Torrance chasing Danny through a hedge maze! *Ahem* Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Anyway… this critically-acclaimed throwback to high-concept 80s horror eluded Nathan and kept him at a distance the first time he saw it. Did this rewatch allow Nathan to form an intimate connection with the film and finally see what others see? Did a love for this movie slowly creep up on him? Or, has a lack of heart in the film stood between Nathan and IT FOLLOWS, much like the camera stands between "it" and the victims? Brace yourselves before hitting play on this one, kids, because the sparks are gonna fly!
