In honor of both After Midnight and Sadistic Intentions being released on Valentine's Day, our series for February is Love and Monsters. The focus of this series is going to be movies that are primarily driven by a romance story line, but that also have monsters (rather than monster movies that have a romance subplot)... so, we are super excited to be kicking off this series with Spring (2014), by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead!! Not only is this a very solid, character driven romance story with a very interesting incorporation of the monster, but the tagline for the movie is literally "love is a monster." Plus, Spring serves as a perfect intro to this series because of the connections with After Midnight and Sadistic Intentions (Benson and Moorhead are producers of After Midnight, and Jeremy Gardner is in all three movies). We both loved Spring and absolutely recommend it!! But, if you have not yet seen Spring and want to go into the movie with absolutely no spoilers, be warned that towards the end of this episode we do heavily discuss the ending of the movie, the implications of the ending, and whether or not we agree on if it is how the movie should have ended (but, we do give a spoiler warning in the episode before diving into the ending). With that being said, we hope that you enjoy tonight's episode! And if you enjoy a dash of monster in your love stories, we absolutely recommend checking out Spring!!
