Holy Spirit – Your spirit that indwells us.  Fill us with your Spirit – Give us ears to hear the Spirit

John 16:7 – I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.

Basic Faith – The Spirit did not just arrive on the day of Pentecost – He has always been here. We looked at the Old Testament and the New Testament, how the Spirit is eternal. Our First Baptist Church Statement of Faith says God: we believe that the scriptures teach that there is one God, the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth; who exists eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in divine perfection. 

Today to look at the Holy Spirit – the Holy Spirit is a person.

The Trinity – God is 3 persons – Father is God, Son is God, Spirit is God

Father is not the son, the Son is not Spirit, and Spirit is not Father. Uniqueness of the person of the trinity – they have their own identity.  How do we relate to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?  Father is who we want to honor and bring glory to, fear and justice, we relate to the Father, we want to be His children.  Son is kind of our big brother, He understands the Father better than we ever could, and He is there to help us, guide us and be an example for us.  He willingly took our place and received that wrath on Him so that we could be spared the wrath.  He is there to protect us.  The Spirit, I didn’t concentrate much on.  I need to dedicate myself.  I know He is called the Helper.  Today to look at the Spirit and how we relate to Him.  5 facets of the person of Holy

1. The Spirit is a He, not an it. He is a person – they have pronouns – He or She. Much of my life, we refer He was referred as the Holy Ghost. Ghost are commonly thought of as someone less than a person.  The echo of a person. Holy Spirit is a person of God Himself. We need to embrace the person He is.  Basic faith of the Bible.  Inspiration of the Bible.  God presents Himself as a He.  Father, Son – using male words. Throughout the Bible presents Himself as a He. My faith is that God wrote the Bible exactly when He wanted it to be.  That is how He wanted to be presented.  These are Basic Faiths of the Bible.
2. The Spirit is personal. In the 70s the Star Wars movie changed things. May the Force be with you.  More people thought of the Spirit more of a force.  The problem with the Spirit being a force makes it cold and un-personal. No connection, lifeless.  The Bible uses the word comforter, a very personal kind of person.   A child scrapes his knee and the mom uses a cold cloth to help it be comfortable.  The relationship between child and mom makes it better.  Same with the Spirit we have someone who cares about us.  Spirit cares for you personally.  The Spirit prays for you personally.  It is with the Spirit we personally connect to God.  He is a personal God.  Christianity is more a relationship than a religion.
3. The Spirit is how we personally connect with God. We have heard will you invite Jesus into your heart. Revelation – Behold I stand at the door – the knock. The rest of the Bible doesn’t talk about Jesus coming into your heart.  It is actually the Spirit Galatians 4:6 – And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying “Abba Father”.  God comes to us. The Spirit that indwells us and connects us to God. Romans 5:5 – and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
