Steph and Cam are joined by special guest, Emil Brewer (http://instagram.com/lime4ever)! The three discuss that big idea of how race plays into art. Emil shares some of his background around finding his love of art in high school, and the group talks about the ways people of color find themselves becoming their own resources to help each other nourish the things they love. They discuss how white spaces that house art can tend to look at works by people of color and other marginalized groups as “niche”. Is art that is made *of* people of color *by* white people considered not “niche” and more “valuable”? Is there a way that white folks can just…do better?
And yes, the episode does touch on serious topics, but we do have a chuckle or two. You may even hear about something that reveals just how white Cam is when they admit they might be a *little* interested in the idea of an art show centered around paintings of Lassie (yes the dog).
