Description

Afreen Aliya, recent grad from McGill University, shares with us why she chose Computer Engineering and the many fruitful experiences she had at McGill. Afreen loved watching movies growing up and saw coding in the Matrix movie, which really got her attention. That plus her love for math and science led her to choose Computer Engineering, which is a mix of hardware and software. Afreen struggled and felt behind compared to her peers, but that did not get her down. She utilized the resources McGill had to offer to help her throughout college and she got involved on campus with competitive programming and by teaching young women how to code with an organization based out of Australia called RoboGals. Afreen has a strong passion for women in tech and is continuously keeping up with technological advances. Her advice to students: don't be afraid to struggle. Find a support system. Try new things and it's totally okay to not have things figured out right away.
