Description

Parts 3 & 4 of our mini series will be a bit different than Parts 1 & 2. For Part 3, you will hear from our guests: Jermaca & Travelle. As we prepared to continue on our conversations from Part 1 & 2, we went into the conversation ready to discuss redlining, gerrymandering, various issues with the zoning processes, and the impacts these items have on our school systems, and beyond. We ended up getting slightly derailed with current events at the time of recording and talked a lot more about religion than originally intended, but it made for a great natural flow of conversation, and we still covered most of what we intended to.

Access is a privilege and there’s not a lot of room for tolerance... We do a deep dive for accountability in this episode and I hope you listen!

Key Terms & Resources Referenced in this Episode:

*Gerrymandering - to manipulate the boundaries of (an electoral constituency) so as to favor one party or class.

*Redlining - a discriminatory practice that puts services (financial and otherwise) out of reach for residents of certain areas based on race or ethnicity. It can be seen in the systematic denial of mortgages, insurance, loans, and other financial services based on location (and that area’s default history) rather than on an individual’s qualifications and creditworthiness.

*Fair Fight is Leading the Charge to Protect Voting Rights!

*Mrs. America on Hulu
