In this episode, Gannon and Bryce interview a former teammate of Bryce's, Johnny Oliveira. Bryce and Johnny spent a year together playing baseball at the collegiate level. They both played for Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois. Ironically, they both share a birthday of August 20th and their parents have the same names, John and Dawn. From the start they established a brother-like bond and connected on and off the field. Within this interview, we take the time to start at the beginning of Johnny's career before Highland when he had 0 offers and no place to continue his playing career. He then got an offer to play at Highland and ran with that opportunity. He discusses the importance of the JUCO Route (which we hit on in last week's episode with Jack & Cam as well) and how much it impacted his career to this day. After the JUCO experience and COVID-19 hit, Johnny's recruiting process slowed until his former hitting coach helped him get a spot with Division 1, Charleston Southern. While at Charleston Southern, Johnny had a .311 BA, 38 H's, 5 DB's, 3 TR's, 2 HR's, 22 R's, and 25 RBI's. To have a stat line like that at the D1 is special and rarely does it occur. He is now in the transfer portal, which he gives us an inside sneak peek at his recruiting process (without giving away too much). Ultimately, within this episode we get to see Johnny's colorful personality, the route of his baseball career, his favorite playing/non-playing memories, and his plans for the future.
