Did Jesus follow all of the Old Testament commands? And if He did, then why aren't we following them? In this episode, Sam and I discuss whether or not followers of Christ should adhere to OT laws, as well as some common misconceptions about them.
The only laws that Jesus rebuked or didn't follow were ones created by the religious leaders at the time, not the Old Testament commands themselves. The Sabbath is a great example of this. Based on the Old Testament, not taking a Sabbath day is punishable by death. But Jesus healed the sick and harvested grain on the Sabbath, both of which were illegal under Pharisee laws but not illegal under Old Testament laws. Since Jesus was God and he also lived a perfect life, wouldn't it make sense that we would live in accordance with God's law and based on Christ's example?
Personally, I think I'm still discerning this concept. But I certainly don't think that it's impossible that generations of churches have trended away from God's intent and focused solely on what sounds good to them. So perhaps our cultural teachings are superseding that of God's? Whichever side you fall on, take a listen and let us know what you think in the comments below!
