Listen

Description

SHOW NOTES:

In This week’s Mind ReMapping Moment, we talk about the Structure of Missed Communication.

It is important to listen to how the words are used while speaking because even in the 7% of communication there’s a lot that is missed because we are managing a lot of information on  a bit by bit basis that our brain has to filter out into chunks that we can handle.

The information is filtered through our beliefs, past experiences, memories, language, environment etc. So people speak in ways that often leave out important information and sometimes making associations that are inaccurate, untrue or not based on evidence or overgeneralizing and that’s why there’s so much missed communication in the 7%

People who tend to look or want to know the bigger picture of things or information most times generalize things and leave out details whereas those who like speaking details tend to assign meaning to things that don’t necessarily equal.

We speak in generalization, deletions, we speak in a cause and effect manner and associations but it is not obvious to the person listening that we are making these associations and since they are listening through their own filters of values and beliefs, therefore so much information tends to get missed.

In order to find clarity and avoid missed communication, we should ask instead of assuming things. We need to be mindful about what we say and when listening we should be mindful of the other person’s filters.

Our self talk is what drives most communication with others.

Despite what most people realize, it’s the unconscious mind that runs us. But how is that so? Get your first primer in 19 minutes! Follow and Share these pearls with others.
