A sudden death in the family parlayed into the revealing of a long-held secret from Jen’s childhood: she had been sexually abused at a very young age. Although she dedicated her young life to dance and had achieved many awards, scholarships and validation, she suffered from Impostor Syndrome, doubting if she was good enough.
Her anxiety and unresolved trauma manifested in several ways including her unknowingly holding her breath while practicing dance or performing, and sometimes even passing out. It affected all of her relationships…with herself, her family and her choice of romantic partners. She tended to attract abusive partners over and over again.
Her healing journey takes a winding path from Texas to California to India to Alabama to New Orleans. Spoiler alert: her story to heal herself included dance, singing, spirituality, astrology, journaling as well as yoga, and some amazing synchronicities along the way. You can see she is a passionate life-long learner so she pursued “all the things” to enhance her self-discovery.
