- 1 Samuel 8:5 - the people of Israel decide they want a king
- Like everyone around them
- The grass always seems greener on the other side
- The first thing that happens before a backslide
- Complaints against the man of God
- Vs. 5
- Vs 7. Samuel is upset
- God says: They have not rejected you
- They have rejected me
- Just like the did after I brought them out of Egypt
- Vs. 9 Give them the king they want
- But protest!
- Tell them how the king is going to be
- Tell them what he can do and will do
- Vs 11-18
- Leviticus 27:30 KJV
And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD.
- Vs 20 they are blinded by their desires
- Thinking this king will give them what they need
- That he will fight their battles
- Vs. listen to them Samuel, give them what they want
- Romans 1:28 KJV
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
- There is hope
- The people realized their sin, their folly
- Went back to Samuel begging 1 Samuel 12
- The preacher began to remind them that it was God that brought Israel out of Egypt by the hand of Aaron and Moses
- “Now listen as I try to reason with you”
- The people forgot God and fell into sin, began worshiping false Gods and the affliction caused them to cry out to God.
- “We have sinned”
- Deliver us and we will serve thee”
- Vs 11 - God sent the preachers
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. [14] How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
- You wanted a king and now you have him
- He Is oppressing you isn’t he?
- Vs 14 if you will repent
- Here’s a miracle to prove who he is
