"AMERICAN BOY.org" A new ally for addicts and the families that love them.
Megan Megale is the Founder of American Boy and this project began with the passing of her son Matt Megale, her very own American boy. Megan and her family watched Matt struggle for ten years with addiction and saw firsthand the frustration and anguish of repeatedly failing at his sobriety.
As a part of the grieving process, Shea Megale, Megan's daughter, presented the family with a manuscript called AMERICAN BOY. Reluctantly they all read it, uncomfortable with its contents but knowing every family that struggles with addiction has the same experiences. Collectively, the family agreed, if they are not honest in sharing their story, it helps no one.
The AMERICAN BOY Project addresses the three obstacles they feel impeded Matt's success in his recovery; twenty-eight days in treatment is never enough, the stigma of addiction, and better resources to identify the best treatment possible for your loved one.
