Welcome to the fifth episode of Ripples in Space hosted by the Yadkin County Public Library. Each month, we review a new science fiction book and discuss major scientific concepts used throughout the story. For this episode, we are reviewing the 2021 science fiction novella “Remote Control” by Nigerian American author Nnedi Okorafor.
In this beautifully written story, we meet a young girl who is known throughout the land as the adopted daughter of death. We learn of the strange and tragic way she received this nickname. She is on a journey to find closure and understanding but sometimes the paths we take lead us to places we didn’t know we needed to see. After discussing this story, we will look into other authors and books that are similar to “Remote Control” and explore extraterrestrial beings in fiction.
Each week, other staff members will be bringing you more topics. Be sure to check back each Wednesday at 1pm for a new episode.
