In today's episode, Margaret came up with this topic while listening to one of her favorite podcasts, Don't Keep Your Day Job. Pete Holmes said: "are you doing what you love, or are you doing what society tells you you should be doing" this quote brings up many emotions. Margaret hears this quote and thinks of all the people around her age that have "valuable jobs" that they went to school for and that somehow their job is more important than hers even though she would be downright miserable doing those jobs.
Martha always goes back to being an immigrant, and the idea that's been ingrained in her brain is that she has to be constantly producing to be valuable. Society will tell us every day that we are never good enough, and we will never reach the goal of being good enough or doing enough, thanks to capitalism. So remember to take the time to do what makes you happy instead of always doing what society tells you to do, even if money is not attached to it.
