Description

Fred Bernard is a painter whose artwork was on display at a popup near the Bowery in Manhattan. For a temporary stint, Parasol Projects hosted his exhibit in a quaint gallery right by the community center where I teach ballroom dance classes. His hypnotic painting boasts a synergy of surrealism, realism and graffiti with a unique quality of looking unfinished; which is his signature style. In the past he has done a myriad of New York City art shows and a show in Miami as well. Previous projects of his also include a large piece of work that was hung on the Brooklyn Bridge promenade and having over a hundred paintings featured at a 12,000 square foot space in Brooklyn. Once known under the alias Dia, this urban artist now continues to display his work in galleries all over the city that never sleeps. Creativity is a family tradition as his wife is a Peruvian dancer who specializes in modern and Peruvian styles of dancing. Their children, though very young, are also beginning to show interest in the arts. This expressive Queens resident has a dream of purchasing a large piece of desolate land one day in order to turn it into an eco-friendly park. The phrase "only in New York" is what comes to mind when I think of this in-person, impromptu interview that I just so happened to end up conducting when I spotted this popup on my way home from work. Tune in for a refreshing, inspiring look into the creative realm of Fred Bernard.
