Here, Wright plays Thelonious ‘Monk’ Ellison, a struggling writer unable to make waves in the literary world. Forced to spend more time in his native Boston, Monk, under a pseudonym, finds unlikely success by writing a satirical, cliché novel littered with tropes from Black writers. And that’s when the real problems begin.
