Brandon was just like every kid out their, good athlete, driven to succeed.etc.. without a role model Brandon turned to the streets to find meaning, to find acceptance he did not receive from his father.
Brandon was looking at a 25 year stretch and had to decide to be a father like he never had or to continue on his path of self destruction.
