Description

This is the 7th episode of Season 2  of the I Am Black History podcast brought to you by InTheBlack:Canada (ITBC), DeeP Visions Media, and a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. I was fortunate to travel to Prince Edward Island in 2021 to visit family and was there for an Emancipation Day celebration. In this episode, Gordon McNeilly shares how he worked with others to make that day happen and that he is committed to making it an official holiday for Islanders. Gordon was born in New Brunswick but now calls PEI home where, in 2019 he was the first Black person elected to PEI's Legislative Assembly. Gordon credits the example set by his Black Trinidadian born father and the love and support from his Scottish born mother for making it possible for him to be where he is today.
