Description

Alan & Bre start out talking about hunting tags because it’s Bre’s first time! Antelope hunting is SO fun & there are so many in Wyoming. They laugh about the difference between antelope hunting & elk hunting. Elk is tough. Bre takes us through breathing. Creativity is the theme today & Bre shares how it is perfect timing because she feels her creativity practices have fallen off the last couple months. Creativity is a muscle that needs to be used & can come back if it’s been lost. She shares how it is also a therapeutic tool for her to process, express, & get away from toxicity. It shines most for her in nature & “quiet.” Alan says creativity for him is not art. He also discusses choices & there are sacrifices within these choices. If you’re not practicing your creative outlet, it’s because you are giving your time to something else. Another hindrance is the fear of failure or trying to look good. Alan utilizes creativity in business & that’s what separates him from the bunch. We get stuck fitting a mold instead of breaking out of the box. Bre dives into her concern with children & potential loss of creativity because they are always intaking stimulus & content instead with screens, also how this will affect innovation in the future when creativity isn’t being cultivated. Alan brings up the iPhone, how Apple went in a different direction than the masses, willingness to be different. Alan’s theme is #actlikeachild, we need to stop adulting all the time & play. Bre is much more weary about screens than Alan but both believe in regulating screen time for kiddos. Also, sometimes we need boredom to activate creativity as kids & adults. The conversation moves into sameness while also getting “yogi” saying that the same poses are never the same because it’s the first time you are doing it in that moment; how can you cultivate curiosity & newness in the old. Alan talks about how activity helps with creativity & Bre debates that it’s not the activity, it’s that when you are hiking, running, etc you no longer have all this outside intake, so your “genius ideas” have a clear space to show up in without distractions [work, kids, etc] to pull you away from it. Alan talks about how we’ve lost nature & play, instead we are stuck in the materialistic realm, work work work, just to make money. They transition into talking about money as a driver does not typically result in “success.” You have far more success when you are passionate about something, solving a problem, etc. Do something worthwhile & the rest will follow. Instagram sexy photos somehow come up… which ultimately they both emphasize don’t be deeply identified to these images of yourself, the likes, the money, the external induced “happiness.” Alan discusses social media’s massive negative impact of teenage girls- between mental health, increase of suicide, body image issues, etc. and suggests to read “Coddling of the American Mind” by Jonathon Haidt. Journal Prompt: You can write about how you feel about the ending note of women & body image challenges. Also use this time for your CREATIVITY. Turn off distractions & sound, write down ideas, draw, sketch whatever comes to you. Quit being an adult, there are no rules for your journal.
