Bre is officially in spring & she shares all of her happenings; stress relief series, retreats in Nepal, Ecuador and Colorado. She talks about being a business owner & some of the economics of planning a retreat. They catch up, Alan talks turkey hunting, then they move into Breath with Bre. Bre and Alan give shoutouts to listeners for providing topics to talk about. Bre's friend, Ajay, asked us to talk about finding our why. Bre shares her journey through corporate America & how all decisions she made were based on her career. Then it was time to re-examine priorities. Bre shares how she was not a fan of constantly being on call, and Alan shared a story about his experience of receiving a work call while on vacation in the Caribbean. They talk about making decisions from a place of choice or empowerment not a “have to.” Alan and Bre discuss the journey of happiness & being able to find happiness when life is tough. Bre mentions polarity, but we need to stop personalizing it. We must trust nature, the tree never tries to be anything other than the tree. Trust the process and know the only moment we have is this one. They talk about why they don’t have sponsors & about authenticity. They get back on track & Bre shares how she started making decisions in alignment with what she wants in life. Alan shares a bit of his journey and how he has gotten to his why. Only you can figure out your why. You must go through the discovery process & figure out your individual needs. They talk about working a job & finding happiness in that, & still continuing to work towards your why. EVERY decision you make takes you further or puts you closer to your why. Know that your why isn’t necessarily meaning of life, quit making it more than it is, get out there & start doing the damn thing. Alan talks about the importance of creating something & shares the impact Soul Tree Yoga’s Meg Stockdale and Marin McCallen had on his life, helping point him towards his why. Bre shares the wisdom that our whys evolve, that's growth. All of this takes a lot of courage, it requires you to look at your fears face to face & make the important decision to keep moving forward. Your feelings aren’t reserved just for you. Everyone deals with disappointment & struggles. Alan’s why is to make an impact on the world through vulnerability. It is important to understand that if you are living your why & taking action towards your why, disappointments are less likely. When times get tough, this is going to reveal if your why is true. When you are living your why, it's easier to embrace the struggle. Bre shares a quote from Alya Howe, “You are the author of your actions, not your outcomes.” And they both share their thoughts on the saying, “everything happens for a reason.” The only thing stopping you from getting to your why is you. You have to be ok with failing, & your ego getting damaged. They both discuss what “making an impact” actually looks like versus what we believe it should look like. Bre shares her friend's concept of ‘ripples to waves’: you might think you're impacting one person, but that person goes out & impacts another person & then they go, etc. Bre’s why - seeing the best in others! And someone tries to tell you anything about your why, tell them to kick rocks, no one has the right to tell you what your why is, but they sure will try. Alan and Bre talk about the impact of social media from the last year & instead of perpetuating the divisiveness we must continue to use outlets like this podcast to talk about our commonalities. Again, stop personalizing polarity. Journal prompt: Write about your thoughts from the episode. Write about your why and how you plan to leave the world with your legacy. Alan mentions the Steve Jobs Stanford speech from 2015, write about that.
