This is a new style format where they record two episodes in one go… a kind of part 1 & 2. They start off talking about the Olympics. Shout out the women’s water polo winning the gold. They talk about the doping scandal in Russia & how athletes not involved in corruption are still impacted. Alan brings up Afghanistan because of his own personal experience in the Army & his relationship to Operation Enduring Freedom. It took 20 years to remove the threat of the Taliban on the world & it is all lost in these last few days. It is hard to know how much we get involved but our presence has reduced terrorism & there hasn’t been a plane crashing into a building since our involvement. The conversation shifts into talking oil, renewable energy, localization, & not putting all our eggs in one basket. Before they dive into journal prompt & breathing, they acknowledge the heaviness of the topic in part 1. Heaviness is important & we shouldn’t avoid it, it is part of the human experience & needed to also experience the light. Wholeness is in embracing heaviness & light.
JOURNAL PROMPT: Where were you during 9/11? What was your memory of it? What did you feel? Whether you agree with the war or not, what are your thoughts about the situation of pulling out of Afghanistan?
