As per the All India Survey on Higher Education 2020-21.
4.13 Crore students enrolled into higher education in 2020-21.
2.12 Crore male and 2.01 Crore female.
Based on actual responses at the undergraduate level, enrolment is highest in
Arts (33.5%),
Science (15.5%),
Commerce (13.9%)
Engineering & Technology (11.9%)
The total number of pass-out were 95.4 Lakh in 2020-21(only 20~25% of actual enrolment)
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with 20.5 Lakh BA 20 L, BSc 11 L, BCom 10 L, Eng 8.3 L, Diplm. 8.5 L
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with 11.3 Lakh
Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) with 10.2 Lakh
Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) & Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) with 8.3 Lakh
Diploma, the total number of pass-out is 8.48 Lakh.
25,550 students were awarded Ph.D. during 2020
If India is producing 1 Cr young graduates from its education system, do the all get into an employment in the formal sector.
India created 4.36 million formal jobs per year between 2011-12 and 2017-18, the Economic Survey 2019-20 report.
So very clearly there is gap between the number of students coming out of the education system and the number of jobs being created in the formal sector.
Despite such a large number of young people coming out of the education system, many organizations stll find it difficult to get the right kind of skilled manpower.
