1 Peter 5:5-7 KJVS - Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be CLOTHED WITH HUMILITY: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
This scripture talks about younger people submitting themselves to older people and older people in the Lord also submitting themselves and feeding the flock of God. In Christ Jesus, we are all supposed to be untainted by the effects of excessive consciousness for age or other kinds of differences! We must not be carried away with things like, “ I’m way older than you”, or that “ I’ve been around for so much longer than you have been. You are just a little child who was born yesterday. I have been around for so many more years before you came”. Sometimes, it’s okay to emphasise such so that people will know their place, but we must not do it too much. We must concern ourselves, if we find ourselves being older than others in a particular thing in God’s house, more with being examples of a believer, more than we are in being lords or masters over others who may be “ younger” than us. And younger people , or if you find that you are younger than another in a place or work, should be able to make oneself humble.
1 Peter 5:1-4 KJVS - The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
4And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Being younger than someone or older than another can bring some form of care to the individuals and if one is not careful, pride can cause the differences between the two to be so magnified that there is schism in the body, and this will disturb the flow and harmony that should exist in the Body of Christ. But the Body of Christ is supposed to be young and youthful thoroughly, without spot or wrinkle or any signs of age!
Ephesians 5:27 KJVS - That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Jesus is youthful, though Ancient of Days. He is able to work across many generations of human beings and all creations and yet never change. We must cast every care that comes with age differences unto the Lord and make it our sole aim to please God through humility, whether we think we are older than someone who is in our way, or younger than someone who wants to be a pain in the neck. In order to work well as Christians, we cannot keep emphasizing the superiority of say the male over the female species, or say say husband over the wife. All of us must clothe ourselves in humility, submit to one another and be delivered from the cares of age, seniority or being junior, etc. which all breathe pride and self-centeredness.
Be young! Live!
