It is quintessential irony. How in God’s name could the wisest man on the planet think there was wisdom in marrying 700 women and having 300 more girlfriends? One has to question the veracity of the claim that Solomon was the wisest man on the planet given the track record with women. Many of Solomon’s marriages were arranged as contractual agreements that increased his power and ability to trade thereby enlarging his wealth. But the real problem was what these women did to his heart and the downfall these entanglements would incite in the richest and wisest of kings.
