It’s one of those moments in Old Testament history that I hope that God has on DVR for us to watch when we get to heaven. Just the machismo that it takes for the prophet of God before a king who’d spent the last three years trying to kill him, not to mention the 850 false prophets who’d spent the afternoon pleading and bleeding for their idol to hear, for Elijah to stand and call down fire from heaven. It had to have been one of those moments where it was utterly indescribable. How does fire even lap up water anyway? Yet there is so much for us to learn from 1 Kings 18 beyond a cool story, truths that show us the importance of worshipping God above everything else.
