In Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Prince Hal finds the cowardly Falstaff supposedly dead on the battlefield. When the prince leaves, Falstaff gets up and states, “The better part of valor is discretion.” From which we get the adage, discretion is the better part of valor. We take the phrase to mean that the best part of courage is caution. On today’s podcast, we learn of David’s discretion in approaching Saul and the lessons we learn from his actions are incredibly instructive for us.
